Nancy Reagan helps her husband, Ronald Reagan, with his tie

Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States (1981-1989), was popularly known as “Dutch”. Actress Joy Hodges was largely responsible for launching his screen career in 1937, by pursuing Universal Pictures to give him a screen test. He was unsuccessful. To counter balance this, he became heavily involved in union activities. He was President of the Screen Actors Guild from 1947-1952 and again from 1959-1960.
