Sophia Loren's extraordinary beauty and charm gave her work on screen initially just in small parts, but it was only when producer Carlo Ponti came into her life that her star appeal arrived.
She married Ponti in 1957 inspite of a 22 year age gap. She went on to star in the “Pride and the Passion” (1957) and the comedy “House Boat”(1958) co-starring with Cary Grant. Film director Victorio De Sica cast her in the film “Two Women” for which she won an Oscar in 1961.
